Narendra Modi Cabinet reshuffle: Union Minister Babul Supriyo resigns

| @indiablooms | Jul 07, 2021, at 09:37 pm

New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Environment Babul Supriyo resigned from the Union Council of Ministers on Wednesday, just ahead of the reshuffle and expansion of PM Narendra Modi's Cabinet later in the day, media reports said.

Even Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan resigned from his position.

Dr Harsh Vardhan's resignation comes in the wake of second wave of Covid-19 which many public health experts said turned chaotic due to lack of foresight and mismanagement by the government.

Apart from these two major ministers, Union Ministers Santosh Gangwar, Ramesh Pokhriyal, Sanjay Dhotre and Debashree Chaudhuri also tendered their resignations.

Sources told UNI that the ministers handed over their resignations during a meeting called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence.

Gangwar was heading the Labour Ministry and Mr Pokhriyal was holding the charge of Education Ministry.

Dhotre was the Minister of State for Education while Ms Chaudhuri was holding the portfolio of Minister of State of Women and Child Development.
