Indian PM Narendra Modi expressed condolences to people hit by a massive cloudburst-triggered landslide and flash flood in Dharali village of Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district on Tuesday.

In his X post, Modi said: "I express my condolences to the people affected by this tragedy in Dharali, Uttarkashi. Along with this, I wish well for all the victims. I have taken information about the situation by talking to Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami ji."

"Relief and rescue teams are making every possible effort under the supervision of the state government. No stone is being left unturned in providing help to the people," he said.

A cloudburst and the resultant massive landslide in Uttarkashi’s Dharali village in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand on Tuesday left at least four people dead and 50 others injured, media reports said.

The village is located 4 km from the Indian Army camp at Harsil.

The natural calamity struck the area around 1:45 pm.

Road connectivity to Gangotri Dham, a sacred Hindu destination, was cut off due to the landslide.

According to reports, the raging waters swept away several houses.

Several videos have now gone viral showing a strong stream of water rushing down from the hills and sweeping away multiple houses in the village.

Senior officials have rushed to the spot of the mishap.

Sharing several images of the disaster-hit region, Uttarkashi Police wrote on X: "On the information of damage in Dharali due to rising water level of Khir Gad in Uttarkashi, Harshil area, disaster teams like Police, SDRF, Army etc. are engaged in relief and rescue work on the spot."

The police advised people to maintain a proper distance from the river.

"Take yourself, children and cattle to a proper distance from the river," the police said.

Meanwhile, Indian Army personnel reached the village and are currently engaged in carrying out the rescue operation.

The Surya Command of the Indian Army wrote on X: "Troops of #Ibexbrigade were immediately mobilised and have reached the affected site to assess the situation and undertake rescue operations. Extent of damage is being ascertained and updates will follow as relief operations unfold."
