Nationwide farmers' strike likely to affect milk and vegetable supplies in cities
New Delhi: Farmers from seven Indian states, including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. began a 10-day strike, startin from Friday, according to media reports.
Their demands include a complete loan waiver, minimum support price for their yield and an assurance of permanent minimum income from the government, reported NDTV.
Supply of fruits, milk and vegetables are expected to be hit as farmers have said they will not supply the regular produce to the cities, reports said.
On Friday, in some places, agitating farmers dumped milk and vegetables on the road, media reported.
A federation of 130 farmer organisations, the Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh (RKM), which is spearheading the protests, has said that farmers may sit on 'dharna' along major highways in the country though may not force a road block, media reported.
