In all 12 fire tenders have been pressed into service.

The fire broke out at the Metro House around 4pm on Thursday.

The building houses the iconic Cafe Mondegar and a McDonalds restaurant besides other shops. It is near the Regal Cinema.

Being an old building, there are wooden staircases making the building more vulnerable.

The area is usually congested with pavement hawkers and tourists besides local shoppers.

According to NDTV, two people were rescued from the building. No casualty has been reported so far.

Reportedly the fire began on the building's fourth floor and began to spread upwards.
