New department to be created to protect indigenous faith and culture : Assam CM

Guwahati/IBNS: Assam cabinet on Saturday decided to create a new department for the preservation of indigenous faiths and cultures in the state.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, the state cabinet has decided to create a new department to protect the culture and practices of people belonging to tribal and other indigenous communities in the state

“The new department will be called Indigenous Faith & Culture to be created for the preservation and protection of Indigenous faith and culture. The new department will be an independent department. We request the Finance minister to allocate a substantial budget for the new department in the state budget.,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The chief minister further said the Assam cabinet also approved some administrative reforms to ensure speedy implementation of the schemes.

“The departmental heads will be entitled to give its nod for schemes, projects worth Rs 2 crore and below, and a finance committee headed by chief secretary for those between Rs 2 crore and Rs 5 crore. A special standing finance headed by the finance minister will approve the projects that are worth between Rs 5 crore and Rs 100 crore. The cabinet will approve the schemes that involve funds over Rs 100 crore,” he stated.
