New Parliament building: Security tightened in the area ahead of inauguration to quell untoward incidents

New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the inauguration of the new Parliament building in the national capital on Sunday, enhanced security measures have been implemented in the area, media reports said.

Delhi Police Special CP Deepender Pathak stated that more than 70 police personnel have been deployed in and around the area, said reports.

The Delhi Police have received information about slogans with "anti-PM" and "anti-India" sentiments that could be put on the walls of the premises by troublemakers.

The inauguration is taking place despite the boycott by 20 opposition parties who are against Prime Minister Modi leading the event instead of President Droupadi Murmu.

Deepender Pathak said Delhi Police will mainly focus on maintaining law and order, foil attempts to disturb calm and peace, and make sure no untoward incident occurs.

"Our focus is to maintain the law and order situation and carry out the program (inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building) tomorrow. We will ensure enough police deployment for tomorrow's event," he told news agency ANI.

Moreover, wrestlers, protesting in Delhi against the Wrestling Federation chief, have made the decision to organise a women's Mahapanchayat in front of the newly inaugurated Parliament building on May 28.

However, according to Delhi Police sources, no permission has been granted for the Women's Mahapanchayat as of yet. In order to prevent any demonstrations outside the new Parliament building, the police will be closing all borders leading to the area.

Further, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) rank officers are conducting CCTV surveillance of the vicinity, and stringent security measures will be in place around the clock to safeguard the new Parliament building.
