NIA likely to investigate case of DySP ferrying Hizbul militants
Srinagar/UNI: National Investigation Agency is likely to investigate the case of a senior police officer, who was arrested for ferrying two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants in a civilian car on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, official sources said on Monday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Davinder Singh, heading an anti-hijacking team at Srinagar International Airport, was ferrying two top HM commanders, identified as Naveed Baba, a former police constable and Asif, along with arms and ammunition to New Delhi.
The case is likely to be handed over to the NIA to investigate the motive of the officer of taking two trained HM commanders to New Delhi just two weeks before Republic Day, official sources told UNI.
Interestingly, Singh was among the selected officials who had received the 16-member delegation of diplomats, including the ambassador of US, in Srinagar during their two-day visit to J&K last week to assess the situation in Valley after the abrogation of Article 370.
Security agencies have raided many places in the valley during the last about 48 hours in relation to the case, sources said.
“Many documents and currency worth Rs 12 lakh has reportedly been recovered during the raids,” they added.
However, police refused to provide any details, saying that the investigation was going on in the case.
On Saturday evening, following specific information about movement of militants, security forces intercepted a vehicle at Wanpoh in Anantnag. DSP Davinder Singh along with two militants was arrested by the security forces. One AK 47 rifle, a pistol and other arms and ammunition was recovered from them.
The two militants were involved in various militancy-related cases.
The accused had revealed during questioning that they were on their way to Delhi, sources added.
