Nine killed in Kakinada bus mishap

Kakinada, Oct 15 (UNI) Nine tourists were killed and 11 others injured, five of them critically, when a private tourist bus in which they travelling went out of control and rolled down into a 30 meters deep valley along Maredumilli-Chintur ghat road in East Godavari agency area, 85 kms from here on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the accident occurred when the bus was enroute to Rajahmundry from the holy shrine of Bhadrachalam.

East Godavari District Superintendent of Police Adnan Nayeem Asmi who is rushing to the scene of accident told UNI that according to preliminary, reports nine people were killed on the spot and rescue and relief operations are in progress.

He said that because of the agency area, the communication network was weak and the exact number of tourists on board could be known soon after he reached there within an hour.

Asmi said the preliminary reports put the number of tourists on board of the ill-fated bus as 20.

Maredumilli police are already on the job for rescue and relief operations and additional forces with medical teams are being rushed from Rampachodavaram, the SP added.
