Not Nirmala, Congress is weak: Poonam Mahajan attacks Adhir Chowdhury

New Delhi/IBNS: Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, while speaking on the onion price rise on Tuesday, was reminded of his "Nirbala Sitharaman" remark by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Poonam Mahajan, who slammed the Bengal politician for representing a party of dynasts, media reports said.

In a full-fledged attack on Adhir, Poonam said, "Nirmala is not Nirbal but Congress is weak".

The young BJP MP said it is Adhir who is weak because "he is working for a family and not the country", thus taking a swipe at the Congress top brass.

Courting a controversy on Monday, Adhir, the Congress MP from West Bengal's Barhampur, called Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman "Nirbala Sitharaman" while speaking on the falling economy.

"I can't understand whether should I call Nirmala Sitharaman or Nirbala Sitharaman," Adhir had said with an intent to take a dig at the Finance Minister.

Later, Sitharaman countered the Congress in the parliament saying, "I have been told that I am the worst Finance Minister, they're not even waiting for me to finish my term. I told them that please give me more ideas, we will work on it. If there's a government that listens, it is PM Modi's government."

Earlier Adhir, who became the Congress Lok Sabha leader after his party faced a crushing defeat in the Lok Sabha polls this year, had courted a similar row by calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi "gandi nali (polluted drain)" in the parliament.
