Noted Malayalam poet Kureepuzha Sreekumar attacked, abused

Kollam, Kerala, Feb 6 (IBNS) : Note d Malayalam poet Kureepuzha Sreekumar was attacked and abused  in Kollam on Monday evening, allegedly by right-wing activists NDTV reported.

Six men, including a local BJP and panchayat member,  were arrested in connection with the incident.

According to reports  Sreekumar, a Kerala Sahitya Akademi award winner  was attacked by a group of men when  he was about to leave the venue of a public function where he was a guest speaker.

He was threatened, verbally abused and jostled around, NDTV quoted police as saying.  

"If I did not have a human chain of protection around me, they would have even physically attacked me. But I am not scared," NDTV quoted Kureepuzha Sreekumar as saying.

The reports said the arrests took place on Tuesday morning on the basis of a complaint filed by the 62-year-old poet.
