Omar condemns killing party Sarpanch in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 1 (IBNS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has condemned the killing of Mohd Sultan Bhat, a ruling party Sarpanch of Shopian killed by unknown gunmen last night.

In a tweet, Omar said a Sarpanch belonging to "my party has been shot & killed by militants outside his home in Shopian earlier this evening."

"My heartfelt condolences to his family & loved ones. He joins the many hundreds of NC cadre killed for their political beliefs," Omar posted.

"Bhat Sahib's death will only spur us on to remain steadfast & committed to our mission of a peaceful, prosperous naya Jammu &
Kashmir," Omar tweeted.

"My party will formally request the Election Commission of India to review security in this area. Concerned about gaps in the security
grid," he said.

"The Election code forbids me from any engagement with the security forces so the EC is now responsible for plugging any loopholes," tweeted Omar.

Suspected militants shot dead ruling  National Conferences (NC) Sarpanch outside his house in his village Nazneenpora in South Kashmir under Shopian District on Sunday evening.
