One arrested for raising Sikh flag at Red Fort amid violence during farmers' tractor rally
New Delhi/IBNS: One person has been arrested for raising the Sikh religious flag at the iconic Red Fort in the national capital amid violent clashes on Jan 26 that erupted during the protesting farmers' tractor rally on the occasion of Republic Day.
The arrested individual has been identified as Dharmendra Singh Harman.
On Jan 26, the situation went out of control after the tractor rally, which was called by the protesters, turned violent as several farmers broke police barricades, vandalised government properties and stormed into the Red Fort to implant a Sikh flag, injuring over 100 police personnel and causing the death of one peasant.
The Indian flag was, however, left untouched.
Several supporters of farmers' protest openly criticised them on social media over the violence that erupted during their rally.
On Monday, the Delhi Police released the names and details of 120 people arrested in connection with 13 FIRs filed after the clashes on Republic Day.
The list included 15 individuals below the age of 20, six below 19 and two below 18. It also includes Jeet Singh, 70, and Gurmukh Singh, 80, from Punjabs' Sangroor and Fategarh districts respectively.

Freelance journalist Mandeep Punia, who was arrested for allegedly obstructing police from discharging their duties at the Singhu border where farmers are protesting against the farm laws, was granted bail on Tuesday.
The police also filed cases against other journalists, including Rajdeep Sardesai, and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor for posts on the death of a farmer at the ITO junction in central Delhi.
The Centre has, meanwhile, beefed up security at the protesting sites with the further strengthening of barricades.
More than 10 rounds of talks were held between the representatives of farmers and the government but with no solution to the deadlock, as the protesters demanded the withdrawal of the three contentious farm laws and a legal guarantee to the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops.
Since Nov 26, 2020, thousands of farmers have gathered at the border of Delhi, which houses the Prime Minister's residence, protesting against the three new farm laws which were enacted by the Centre through an Ordinance and later controversially passed by Parliament.
