A large police force, along with Rapid Action Force (RAF), rushed to the scene and restored to lathicharge, lobbed tear gas shells and fired few round bullets in the air to disperse the attacking mob.

Local people claimed that police fired at least 14 gunshots aiming at the protesters during the clash and one protester- Salam Laskar- was killed after being shot.
