Opposition has lost the will to fight elections: Narendra Modi

Indian PM Narendra Modi on Monday slammed the opposition parties in his Motion of Thanks to the President's address in the Parliament and said they have lost the 'will' to fight elections.

Attacking the Congress party, he said: "It is the Congress party which is responsible for the condition of the opposition today."

"It failed to play the role of a perfect opposition party in the past 10 years and did not allow others to take up the position," he said.

Narendra Modi, who is eyeing his third term in the Lok Sabha, said: "I appreciate the Opposition's resolve to remain in the opposition for a long time."

"You all sat in power for decades and now people will ensure you will sit in the opposition for a long time," he said.

Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party registered a thumping victory in the Lok Sabha polls in 2014 to dislodge the Congress government from power that ruled the nation for a decade and won another term in 2019 since then.

The country is scheduled to vote to elect a new Lok Sabha in the upcoming months.
