Over 62,000 people of eight districts of Assam affected in flood

Guwahati, Jul 9 (IBNS): Assam flood situation turned worse after flood waters submerged 145 villages in eight districts of the state and affected over 62,000 people.

The mighty Brahmaputra river and its tributaries are flowing above the danger level marks at many places in the state following incessant rains in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in the past couple of days.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 62,419 people of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Barpeta, Chirang, Golaghat, Jorhat and Dibrugarh district have been affected in the current wave flood.

Over 22,000 people have been affected alone in Dhemaji district while 11,000 people affected in Jorhat district and 10,000 in Lakhimpur district.

In Lakhimpur, a bamboo bridge was washed away by flood waters.

The water level of Brahmaputra river is flowing above danger level marks in Neamatighat in Jorhat district.

The water level of Dhansiri river is flowing above the danger level at Numaligarh in Golaghat district and Jia Bharali is flowing above the danger level at NT Rd Xing in Sonitpur district, Puthimari at NH Rd Xing in Kamrup district and Beki river at Rd. bridge in Barpeta district.

The flood waters have submerged 3435-hectare croplands in the flood-hit districts.

On the other hand, a man was injured in a landslide at Jorabat area, outskirts of Guwahati on Tuesday.

The water level of the Brahmaputra river has gradually increased and rose 2-3 cm per hour at DC Court in Guwahati.
