Pakistan terror attack kills over 45 people

More than 60 people were traveling in the bus when the attack occurred in Safoora Chowrangi area of the city .The bus belonged to the Ismaili community.

“At least six gunmen attacked the bus in the Safoora Goth area of Karachi,” a senior police official was quoted as saying by Geo News.

“The gunmen stopped the bus and first fired at it from outside," said the policeman. "Then they entered inside the bus and open fire indiscriminately. After that they checked to see if anyone was left uninjured.”

The injured people were taken to  Memon Hospital Insitute, Aga Khan Hospital and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned the attack.

According to reports, country's Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif  has reached the Karachi.

Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa tweeted: "#COAS cancels his pre scheduled 3 days visit to Sri Lanka due to Kci terrorist Bus attack."

Jundullah has claimed responsibility for the attack, media reports said.

Meanwhile, leaders have condemned the attack.

Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan tweeted: "Stunned & grieved at most condemnable terror attack in Karachi on ordinary citizens of Pak belonging to a most peaceful community."

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: "The attack in Karachi is deeply saddening & utterly condemnable. Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased."

"We stand firmly with the people of Pakistan in this hour of grief. I wish all those injured a quick recovery," he said.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi also condemned the attack as his official Twitter handle quoting him said: "I strongly condemn the brutal terrorist attack in Karachi. Innocent lives have been lost in a senseless act of violence."

"My condolences to the families of the victims. Strong action must be taken against the perpetrators of this cowardly act," he said.
