Mehsana, Apr 18 (IBNS) The violent protests in Gujarat's Mehsana district on Sunday have resulted in a shutdown in the state on Monday, as mobile internet connectivity has been suspended by the officials to curb the spread of protests, according to reports.

The agitating Patels clashed with the police on Sunday after the community demanded the release of Hardik Patel, the face of their campaign, who is presently in jail.

As the agitation gathered storm, police reportedly used batons and tear gas to bring things under control.

About 30 people were injured, including five policemen.

Angry protesters also torched two government offices, resulting in a curfew to be imposed in the area. Around 15 people were also arrested

However the curfew was lifted on Monday morning, as schools and colleges were kept open.

The Patel's started an agitation last year, demanding reservation.

A similar incident took place in Haryana, a month ago.

Reservation was confirmed on the Jats, who too took to the streets to stage a massive protests.
