New Delhi/UNI: A petition was filed before the Supreme Court on Wednesday, seeking a court-monitored Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the recent alleged mass molestation and sexual harassment incident at Gargi College, a women's college under Delhi University.

The Public Interest Litigation (PIL), filed by lawyer Manohar Lal Sharma before the apex court on Wednesday, will come up for hearing likely within a week or so, sources said.

As per his petition, on Feb 6, a mob of men reportedly gatecrashed the college fest organised by Gargi College.

Scenes turned ugly as the mob allegedly molested and sexually harassed the students.

The shocking incident came to light a couple of days later, when the students took to social media to recount the horrific incident.

Seeking a probe into this incident, Sharma has moved the Supreme Court claiming the incident to be a conspiracy on part of political parties to gain "political mileage" just ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls that took place on Feb 8.

Sharma also stated in his petition that the blame on the Delhi administration for failing to take action in the matter.
