PM launches social schemes in Kolkata, shares stage with Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, May 9 (IBNS) Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were seen sharing the stage in Kolkata, as the Prime Minister launched Pradhan Mantri Jivan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana in the city on Saturday.

Launching the schemes, Modi said ,"Poor do not want 'Sahara' (support). We need to change how we think. The poor need 'Shakti' (power)."

He said the poor people in the country must live with dignity.

"The poor need strength and the poor must live with dignity," Modi said.

He said :"We are calling the world to Make in India and at the same time we are opening bank accounts for the poor..I told the poor- this Nation, this Government and our banks are for you."

Modi is visiting Kolkata for the first time since he became the PM of the nation after his Bharatiya Janata Party scripted a landmark victory in the Lok Sabha polls last year.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said the Centre and the states should work together.

"Centre and states have to work together. That is when good of the Nation happens. Let us dedicate this programme to the people of India," she said.

She said: "We must always work for the people."

Modi arrived in Kolkata after his quick visit to Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh.
