PM Modi attacks Lalu on beef eating, Nitish flays Modi for silence on Dadri lynching

Munger, Bihar, Oct 8 (IBNS) As the Bihar poll campaign reached a dizzy height, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hit out at RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav for his comment on beef eating and was promptly attacked by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his "defeaning silence" on the Dadri mob killing in Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing a rally in Bihar ahead of next week's polls, PM Modi referred to Lalu Prasad's comment that "Hindus also eat beef" and said: "The Yaduvanshis gave India the white revolution and made Gujarat the centre of it. But here, a neta  of the Yadavs ate it."

"Lalu ji, elections come and go, but please remember these people of yaduvansh were with you. Lalu ji, you have made serious allegations about what yaduvanshis eat. When young people got angry at his words, he said that the devil had entered him. I want to know why the shaitan (devil) chose him," he said.

Earlier, Lalu Prasad had remarked :"Don't Hindus eat beef too? It is the poor who are forced to eat beef."

However, the PM on Thursday did not utter anything on the Dadri killing, in which a man was lynched by a mob over rumours of cow slaughter and beef eating. This gave Nitish Kumar an opportunity to launch an attack on him.

"The real Modi on display-brazen attempt to add communal texture to Bihar polls, but deafening silence on deplorable incidence of Dadri.  All to see why Vajpayee ji was forced to remind him to follow Raj Dharma, but wonder who will do the Vajpayee today?"  Nitish Kumar tweeted.

Kumar had earlier accused the BJP of trying to import the beef controversy into  Bihar to polarize voters. He also defended his alliance partner Lalu Prasad, who has under the fire of the BJP for his comment on beef eating.
