PM Modi congratulates new UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, says 'committed to deepening ties'

New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke to his newly elected UK counterpart Keir Starmer and congratulated him for his massive victory.

Modi wrote on X, "Pleased to speak with @Keir_Starmer. Congratulated him on being elected as the Prime Minister of the UK. We remain committed to deepening Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and robust - economic ties for the progress and prosperity of our peoples and global good."

Removing the Conservative rule of 14 years, Labour Party returned to power by clinching 412 seats.

Keir Starmer is now the new PM of the country.  The majority mark in the 650-seat House of Commons is 326.

Addressing his party supporters, Starmer said: "Thank you. We did it. Change begins now."

"You all have changed our country," he said amid cheering supporters who clapped as their leader revealed the vision of his leadership for the upcoming government.

He said the party has to work to ensure the politics of the nation is transformed into public service.
