PM Modi dials Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar over post-poll violence

The BJP has claimed at least six of its workers were killed allegedly by the "goons" of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in a violence, which occurred in various parts of the country.

Though several posts have been termed as "fake" by police, the saffron party has alleged that its female workers were molested and gangraped.

The Union Home Ministry on Monday asked the West Bengal government for a report on the post-assembly election violence in the state.

BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda on Tuesday arrived in West Bengal and he will meet the families of the victims of the violence.

Chief Minister-elect Mamata Banerjee on Monday appealed to her workers to maintain peace in the state.

"Some win and some lose in elections. I would appeal to my party workers to maintain calm and not get involved in any kind of violence. If they have any grievances, they should file complaints with the police," she said on Monday.

In a highly intense fight with the BJP, the TMC has won 213 of 292 seats (two more seats due to be polled), decimating the saffron unit which has won just 77.

The Left and Congress have drawn a blank while their alliance partner Indian Secular Front (ISF) has managed to win one seat from South 24 Parganas.
