PM Modi fails to introduce new ministers facing protests in Parliament
New Delhi/IBNS: In a picture which was anticipated, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday faced loud protests from the Opposition bench in Parliament, failing to introduce his new ministers, who were sworn in recently.
As he stood up to introduce the ministers, slogans were raised by members of the Opposition, which is aiming to corner the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the monsoon session of Parliament on a number of issues including the latest Pegasus spyware.
A visibly-irritated Modi slammed the Opposition in restrained words saying, "Women, people from socially and economically backward communities have been made ministers this time. I think they should have been congratulated. Perhaps some people are not happy so they don't even allow their introduction."
Both the houses of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, were adjourned.
The chaos occurred in Parliament just minutes after the Prime Minister urged all Opposition leaders to allow the government to answer peacefully.
"I seek tough questions from the Opposition but also request them to allow the government to answer peacefully. Democracy will be strengthened if truth reaches the people," Modi said before entering Parliament.
The session was expected to be stormy as several opposition parties went aggressive even Sunday, when the Prime Minister held a customary all-party meeting.
As per news reports, the Congress has objected to Modi's absence during debates in Parliament.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien tweeted, "MPs do not want fancy PowerPoint presentations on #COVID19 from the PM or this Government in some conference room. #Parliament is in session. Come to the FLOOR OF THE HOUSE."

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has sought time from the floor leaders of all parties Tuesday evening when he will brief them about COVID-19 situation.
