PM Modi reaches Tamil Nadu for informal meeting with Xi Jinping

Mamallapuram: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu to hold an informal meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday.

This will be the second informal meeting between Modi and Xi Jinping.

The two leaders had their inaugural Informal Summit in Wuhan, China on Apr 27-28.

In this meeting in Tamil Nadu, no deal will be signed.

"The forthcoming Chennai Informal Summit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to continue their discussions on overarching issues of bilateral, regional and global importance and to exchange views on deepening India-China Closer Development Partnership," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

The meeting will take place in the backdrop of the strained relationship between India and Pakistan over the abrogation of Article 370 which withdrew Jammu and Kashmir's special status.

Though Pakistan has tried to internationalise the Kashmir issue, India maintained the abrogation of Article 370 is its internal matter.

China has recently said the dispute over Kashmir should be resolved by New Delhi and Islamabad.
