Johannesburg, July 27 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reaffirmed India’s commitment to multilateralism, international trade and a rules-based world order as he participated in the BRICS summit in South Africa's Johannesburg.

Modi, who arrived in Johannesburg on the last leg of his Africa tour, presented the country statement of India at the BRICS leaders’ closed session.

“At the session with fellow BRICS leaders, I shared my thoughts on various global issues, the importance of technology, skill development and how effective multilateral cooperation creates a better world,” Modi tweeted.

On the sidelines of the summit, Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping for talks which he said would "add vigour" to the bilateral ties.

"Always a delight to meet President Xi Jinping. Our talks were fruitful and will add vigour to the ties between India and China," he tweeted.

Modi also held wide-ranging  talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and said the discussion was "productive."

"Wide-ranging and productive talks with President Putin. India’s friendship with Russia is deep-rooted and our countries will continue working together in multiple sectors," he tweeted.

The PM also separately met South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa and held extensive discussions on enhancing economic as well as cultural relations between the two countries.

"We also released stamps commemorating two stalwarts who inspire humanity, Mahatma Gandhi and Madiba," he tweeted.
