New Delhi, Apr 27 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday wished the people of South Africa on the occasion of the country's Freedom Day.

"Greetings to my sisters and brothers of South Africa on Freedom Day. This is a day that celebrates hope and optimism," Modi said.

On Freedom Day we remember the beloved Madiba, an inspiration and a harbinger of change who strived to bring a better tomorrow for his people", the Prime Minister said.

Freedom Day is a South African public holiday celebrated on Apr 27.

It celebrates freedom and commemorates the first post-apartheid elections held on that day in 1994.
