PM Narendra Modi with 56-inch chest failed to fight corruption: Rahul Gandhi

Sitapur/Barabanki, May 1(UNI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi came with a 56-inch chest claiming to fight corruption and other issues but failed miserably.

'The people of the country have gone through the worst phase during the past five years of the Modi rule. They have seen how corruption has increased and the failure of the promises like doubling of the income of the farmers and acche din of the common people," he said.

The Congress president announced that if his party comes to power at the centre, every year they will provide 22 lakh jobs. Besides, Nyay scheme will grant Rs 72,000 per year to 25 crore poor in the country.

Youths applying for the jobs would not have to pay any fee.

Addressing two election meetings, first at Biswa in Sitapur and second at Ramnagar in Barabanki, on Wednesday, Gandhi slammed the Modi government for promoting corruption and gave example of how Rafale aircraft deal was signed just to benefit an industrialist.

"Narendra Modi waived off Rs 5.55 lakh crore of 15 industrialists, but on the other hand he did not fulfill the promise made to the people of the country that he will deposit Rs 15 lakh in their bank accounts.

Besides, demonetisation and Gabbar Singh Tax(GST) has ruined the economy increasing unemployment in the country," he claimed.

Reiterating his demand for a 15-minute debate with the PM, the Congress president said that Modi was not ready to accept his challenge as he will not be able to defend his corruption.

"Let there be an open debate with the PM and I can challenge that after it, Modi will not be able to face the country," he further claimed.

He also blamed the BJP for bringing out deposits of the women on the name of black money during demonetisation.

Gandhi said when the petroleum prices at the international level was going down, in India it was rising just to benefit select industrialists close to Modi.
