PM summons Delhi Police Chief after convent school vandalized
New Delhi, Feb 13 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday summoned Police Commissioner of Delhi B.S. Bassi and expressed his deep concern and anguish over the rising crime rate in the national capital in the wake of the vandalism in a convent school in south Delhi.
The Prime Minister asked the Police Commissioner to speedily investigate the recent incidents of vandalism and ensure that the guilty are brought to book.
Modi also spoke over telephone to the Union Home Secretary L.C. Goyal.
He has asked the Home Secretary to pay special attention to the rising incidents of crime, and vandalism, and to work towards ensuring the safety and security of women in the capital.
This comes after a convent school in south Delhi was allegedly vandalized by miscreants in the intervening night of Thursday-Friday.
The school in Vasant Vihar - Holy Child Auxilium- is where also Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani studied. She is visiting the school following the attack.
School authorities said the window of the principal's room was smashed by the attackers. However, they denied reports of vandalism and told media that it was an incident of theft.
Following the incident, Delhi Chief Minister-designate Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "This kind of acts will not be tolerated."
Earlier, there were reports of a series of attacks on churches.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had instructed Delhi Police to beef up security of churches and other places of worship in the wake of the recent attacks on churches across the national capital.
