Police denies permission to Amit Shah's Kolkata rally, BJP to move High Court
Kolkata, July 30 (IBNS): The Kolkata Police on Monday denied permission to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah's public meeting, which was scheduled to be held Rani Rasmoni Road in city's downtown Esplanade area on Aug 11, reports said.
A senior official of Kolkata Police told IBNS that the administration granted authorization to Congress rally as the party had sought permission, earlier than BJP, to hold its mass meeting at the same venue on August 11.
"Maintaining our guidelines, we have permitted Congress to host its political event at Rani Rasmoni Road on August 11 and rejected BJP's petition as they applied later than Congress," the official said.
Alleging that Kolkata Police's decision to deny permission to Amit Shah's rally was part of a political conspiracy plotted by state's ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), BJP's West Bengal president Amit Shah said that his party will move to the Calcutta High Court against city police's rejection.
"We will be moving to the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday against Kolkata Police's decision to deny permission to BJP's youth wing- Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM)'s rally at Rani Rasmoni Road where our party's national president Amit Shah will be present as the chief speaker," Dilip Ghosh told IBNS.
"We are also thinking about other public places like Shyambazar Five Point Crossing to host the mega rally on August 11," Ghosh added.
Besides Amit Shah, BJYM's national president Poonam Mahajan will also be present at the mass rally, which was earlier scheduled to be held on Aug 3 and later postponed to Aug 11.
