Police official arrested for drinking in ‘dry’ Bihar

Patna, May 5 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): A senior police official was arrested by the police from Muzaffarpur district in Bihar after he was caught allegedly drinking in the police station, reports said today.

Police arrested the officer-in-charge of the Qazi Mohammadpur police station Rameshwar Singh on Thursday night for being under the influence of liquor and passing obscene comments on the passersby.

Soon after his arrest, he was placed under suspension, officials said. He is the third police official arrested on the charge of drinking in the past two days.

Yesterday, the president of the Bihar Policemen’s Association (BPA) Nirmal Singh along with another office-bearer had been jailed for similar charges.

Both were allegedly drinking liquor in the Patna police lines when they were arrested by the police and sent to jail.

The arrest comes amid the rats being blamed by the cops for guzzling around a million litres of seized liquor stocks in police storerooms.

Bihar enforced total alcohol ban in April last year and made provisions for harsh punishment to the violators yet such incidents continue to surface at intervals.
