Police prevented us from holding press conference : Kashmir civil society group

Srinagar, Apr 16 (IBNS) A Civil Society group in Kashmir alleged that the Jammu and Kashmir Police had prevented them from holding a press conference at their office in Srinagar on Saturday.

The Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society said that a press conference was being organized in which the mother of the Handwara ‘molestation’ victim was scheduled to address the media.

The alleged molestation on Tuesday led to violent protests, and subsequent firing by security forces in different areas in which altogether five people died.  The army has denied the involvement of any trooper in the alleged molestation.

“Police did not allow us to hold the press conference on Handwara molestation case. We saw large number of security forces outside our office. How was it possible for media media to enter  our office,” said convener Khurram Parvez.

He further said the  family was not allowed to speak to the media.
