Pranab condoles RR Patil's death
New Delhi, Feb 18 (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the passing away of former Maharashtra Home Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader RR Patil.
In a condolence message to his wife, Suman R.R. Patil, the President has said, “I am saddened to learn about the passing away of Shri R.R. Patil."
"Shri Patil served the state of Maharashtra as Deputy Chief Minister, Home Minister and member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. His immense contribution to the welfare of the state of Maharashtra will always be remembered. In his death, the nation has lost a leader who was always in touch with the grassroots of society," his message said.
"I pray to the Almighty to give your family and you the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and convey the same to all members of your family," it added.
Patil breathed his last in Mumbai on Monday.
According to reports, he was suffering from advance stage of Oral Cancer.
He was on ventilator support in Lilavati Hospital of Mumbai.
Patil became Home Minister of Maharashtra for the second time after the 2009 Maharashtra assembly election victory of the Congress-NCP alliance.
He was also the former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
