Preity to return India today, join probe
Mumbai, June 22 (IBNS): Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, who was in the United States, will return to India on Sunday and is likely to join the investigation process in the assault case against her ex-boyfriend, industrialist Ness Wadia.
She is scheduled to record her statement over her complaint.
The Mumbai Police had earlier tried to reach out to Zinta through various means, urging her to record her statement in the case filed by her against Ness Wadia. It finally wrote to the actress asking her to record the statement in a week's time, media reports said.
Zinta was earlier scheduled to return to India on Thursday evening.
Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria said the police want Zinta to record a supplementary statement.
Earlier, she said she is not selling her stake in Kings XI Punjab.
Zinta and Ness are co-owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team - Kings XI Punjab.
"A big Thank U 2all the people 4the support. Amazed at how much speculation in the media. No I'm not selling my stake or settling in the US," tweeted Zinta.
"SO called sources says anything & its getting reported. Pls No hearsay. There are many IMP Issues in India which are much more news worthy," she posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.
Zinta filed a assault case against Ness, which she claimed was done to protect herself rather than hurting anyone.
Denying her allegations, Ness said he was "shocked" and termed them as "false and baseless".
The police has registered a case under Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
In her statement to the police, the actress alleged that Ness outraged her modesty and abused as well as threatened her during the IPL qualifier for the final between Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on May 30.
She reportedly said that during the match, while in the Garware Pavilion, Ness came up to her, grabbed her by the hand and started using abusive words in front of other spectators.
The actress dated the Bombay Dyeing heir from February 2005 until May 2009.
Their relationship was often reported on by the media, with frequent speculation about an engagement or a break-up.
