President and Vice President want Raksha Bandhan to focus on women's safety issues too

New Delhi, Aug 17 (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President M. Hamid Ansari have wished the people of India on the eve of Raksha Bandhan, a popular festival.

President Pranab Mukherjee in his message said, "The festival of Rakhi stands for the eternal bond of love and trust that brothers and sisters share. May the Rakhi festival strengthen fraternal feelings and the spirit of oneness in our society as we strive collectively for the well-being of our people."

He also said, "May this unique festival inculcate in us the need to protect the women in our society and promote their welfare. Let us on this occasion resolve to ensure that the women and girls of our country feel safe and secure at all times."

In his message, Vice President M. Hamid Ansari highlighted that Raksha Bandhan reaffirms the strong bond of love and affection between brothers and sisters in Indian society.

"Let us resolve to uphold the dignity and respect traditionally accorded to women in our society," he emphasised.
