President Mukherjee condoles death of Uzbek President Islam Karimov

New Delhi, Sept 3 (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee, on Saturday, condoled the death of Islam Karimov, the incumbent Uzbek President, who passed away following an illness.

"Heartfelt condolences on the passing away of Mr. Islam Karimov, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan," President Mukherjee said.

"Late President Karimov was highly regarded in India," he added.

Karimov was the first President of Uzbekistan.

He resumed office in 1990.
