New Delhi, Aug 30 (IBNS): Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed the Narendra Modi government over a recent Reserve Bank of India (RBI) report which claimed there has been an increase in bank frauds in the last fiscal year.

Priyanka on Friday tweeted, "RBI, which is the country's biggest banking system, has admitted that bank frauds are increasing under the government's nose. The corruption has increased in 2018-2019. The bank has lost Rs. 72,000 crore. But who is the guarantor to allow this to happen?"

In a recent report, the RBI said the bank frauds have increased by 15 per cent year-on-year basis in 2018-2019.

In the FY19, 6,801 bank frauds have taken place with an amount worth Rs. 71,542.93 crore.

In 2017-2018, 5,916 cases of bank frauds were reported amounting to Rs. 41,167.04 crore.

Days ago, the RBI announced it has accepted the recommendations of Bimal Jalan Committee following which it approved surplus transfer to the Centre.

The sum amounts to Rs. 1,76,051 crore.

After the announcement, Congress leader and Priyanka's brother, Rahul Gandhi, attacked the Centre saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman are clueless to tackle the "economic disaster".
