New Delhi/IBNS: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has opposed the conduct of central board examinations amid the massive surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.

In a series of tweets, Priyanka said, "While corona is ravaging our country again, the added pressure of exams is bound to affect the mental health of children. Our education system needs to drastically alter its attitude and start reflecting sensitivity and compassion towards children rather than just talk about it at their conclaves and conferences."

"It is downright irresponsible of boards like the CBSE to force students to sit for exams under the prevailing circumstances. Board exams should either be cancelled, rescheduled or arranged in a manner that does not require the physical presence of children at crowded exam centres," the opposition leader added.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board examinations for classes 10 and 12 are scheduled to commence on May 4.

However, the country, which is witnessing the second wave of Novel Coronavirus, is reporting over one lakh infections on a daily basis.

India registered 1,31,968 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, as per Ministry of Health released data. During the same period, 780 people lost their lives due to the virus.

Ruling out any possible anti-Covid-19 lockdown in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his meeting with the Chief Ministers of all states and union territories on Thursday stressed on the need to ramp up testing followed by tracking and tracing.

The Prime Minister has also asked the states to enforce Corona curfew at nights.
