Puducherry: Police bust robbery gang ; 3 held

Puducherry, May 7(UNI) Police busted a robbery gang, which used to divert the attention of the people and rob cash they withdraw from banks here, and arrested three persons in this connection.

According to police, Gandhimathi (51) of Shanmughapuram here on March 16 lodged a complaint with the Mettuppalayam police that an unidentified man followed her from the State Bank of India and robbed the Rs.Six lakh cash taken from the bank at her house, diverting her attention.

A case was registered and on investigation it same to know that it was the handiwork of a gang from Tiruchirappalli. A special team went there and arrested Moorthy and Arun on April 9 and seized Rs.1.40 lakh from their possession.

The team was on search for the other culprits and arrested the third member of the gang Muruganandam (28) near the SBI Thattanchavady here on May 6.

On interrogation, he confessed of stealing the cash at the house of Gandhimathi and police seized Rs.4 lakh from his possession.

Further investigation is on.
