Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann sacks Health Minister on corruption charges

Chandigarh/IBNS: In a rare move in Indian politics, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has sacked one of his ministers on the charges of corruption, media reports said.

Mann has sacked state Health Minister Vijay Singla who was allegedly demanding a percent of commission on tenders.

The Chief Minister, who took the step after he received complaints against Singla, said his government won't tolerate even the minimum corruption.

Police have also been directed to register a case against Singla.

Mann said, "The AAP government will not tolerate one percent corruption."

"The people have voted for the AAP government with a lot of hope, we have to live up to it. As long as mother India has a son like Arvind Kejriwal and a soldier like Bhagwant Mann, the great war against corruption will continue," he added.

Mann became the Chief Minister after Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which was born out of its anti-corruption campaign in Delhi, stormed into power uninstalling the Congress government earlier this year.

Lauding Mann's action, AAP MP Raghav Chadha tweeted, "Aam Aadmi Party is the only party that has the integrity, courage & uprightness to take action against their own on grounds of corruption.

"We saw it in Delhi, now we are witnessing it in Punjab. ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CORRUPTION. Commendable decision by CM @BhagwantMann."
