Puri Jagannath temple repairs to be carried out during car festival

Bhubaneswar, Jun 12 (UNI): The repair work inside the Puri Jaganath temple will be carried out during the car festival.

Jaganath temple chief administrator P.K. Mohapatra said repair of the sanctum sanctorum, Nat Mandap, kitchen and Jagamohan would be done.

He was talking to reporters here after a meeting on the temple security during the car festival.

Mr Mohapatra said the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) was directed to complete the repairing work by June 14.

He said though there is no crack in the sanctum sanctorum, the ASI will examine it following complainant by the people to ensure everything is fine.

Mr Mohapatra said on June 16, next the idol of Jay Bijay, the guarding deities will be installed in front of the Lion’s gate. The idols were damaged in the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani last month.

He said the Nila Chakra wheel atop the Jagannath temple is safe and not damaged in the cyclone adding that the chemical analysis of the Nila chakra would be undertaken to further strengthen it.
