New Delhi/Kolkata/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday once again pitched in for an Atmanirbhar or a self-reliant country on the occasion of the 100 years of Visva Bharati University which is located in West Bengal.

In his virtual address to the university, Modi said, "Gurudev had given the goal of nationalism. He wanted to see our villages, agriculture, economy, art and culture to be self-reliant."

"Gurudev's vision was for a self-reliant India," he also said.

"Gurudev wanted the world to be benefited from the greatest things of the country and also the country should learn from the world," the PM said.

Visva Bharati, a central university, was founded by Nobel laureate Bengali poet-writer-composer Rabindranath Tagore.

Earlier in the day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had tweeted on Visva Bharati's Centenary, "Visva Bharati University turns 100. This temple of learning was Rabindranath Tagore’s greatest experiment on creating the ideal human being. We must preserve the vision and philosophy of this great visionary"
