New Delhi, Jun 8 (IBNS): The Madhya Pradesh government allowed Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday, to meet family members of the farmers who had died in police firing recently in Mandsaur, media reported.

A tweet on the official Congress party handle read "#RahulGandhi released. On his way to meet the families who have been taken to the Rajasthan border to prevent them from meeting him in MP."

Office of RG tweeted later in the day, "Spoke to families of deceased farmers on phone&conveyed my condolences.I'm here to meet them&will not be deterred frm voicing their concerns."

The meeting took place at the Madhya Pradesh-Rajasthan border, reports later said.

The police earlier released the Congress vice president on bail from his makeshift jail in a guest house where he was taken first under preventive custody and then arrested, according to media reports.

On Thursday morning, the MP government had said that it will not allow Rahul Gandhi to enter the state and meet the protesting farmers. A section 144 was also declared in the area.

Rahul Gandhi and other veteran Congress leaders had marched to the state border but were prevented from entering by the state police, media reports said.

The BJP has called the Congress' attempt to meet the farmers and their families as 'bankrupt p;otics'.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh and head of the BJP-led government in the state, said, "Won't spare anyone breaking the law."

Along with Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra is also facing farmers' agitation.

However, the media has pointed out that while the Madhya Pradesh-Rahul Gandhi tug of war was going on, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh was seen performing yoga with yoga expert Ramdev in Bihar’s Motihari,
