New Delhi, June 19 (IBNS): Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who recently took oath as the Lok Sabha member, turned 49 on Wednesday and Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of the first persons to wish him on his special day on the social media.

"Best wishes to Shri @RahulGandhi on his birthday. May he be blessed with good health and a long life," Modi tweeted.

The Congress party also wished their top leader and said: " On Congress President @RahulGandhi's birthday, we look back at five moments when he inspired Indians everywhere. #HappyBirthdayRahulGandhi pic.twitter.com/Clj0gJ6kqj."

Gandhi took oath as the Lok Sabha member on Monday.

Under his leadership, the Congress received a jolt in the Lok Sabha polls this time.

The grand old party of the country managed to win only 51 seats.

Rahul Gandhi himself lost from Uttar Pradesh's Amethi seat.

Rahul won from Amethi three times earlier.

He was defeated by Union Minister Smriti Irani this time.

However, Rahul decision to contest Wayanad helped him as he won the polls from the southern constituency.
