Rahul Gandhi was screened for Coronavirus at Delhi airport: Congress

New Delhi/IBNS: The Congress party on Friday revealed that Rahul Gandhi was screened for Coronavirus infection at the Delhi Airport on Feb 29 during his return from Italy, a country which has now emerged as an epicentre of the epidemic outbreak in Europe.

Often being slammed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for his foreign trips, Rahul, who had travelled to the Italian city of Milan for two weeks, stood in the queue with other passengers for the screening

He reportedly denied being exempted from the screening for being the Member of Parliament and having Z-Plus security.

Rahul reportedly stood for half-an-hour with other passengers and was also briefed by the medical examiner on the symptoms of COVID-19.

This comes after an independent MP Hanuman Beniwal, from Nagaur in Rajasthan, sparked controversy after demanding that Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, must be tested for they travel to Italy often.

Singing in the same tune, BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri also hit out that "many people from Italy" had tested positive and, therefore, Rahul Gandhi "should be checked for coronavirus."

The Congress leader has often slammed the Centre for the spread of the disease and their handling of the same.

Taking a dig at Union Home Minister Harsh Vardhan, Rahul on Thursday tweeted: "The Health Minister saying that the Indian Govt has the #coronavirus crisis under control, is like the Capt of the Titanic telling passengers not to panic as his ship was unsinkable. It's time the Govt made public an action plan backed by solid resources to tackle this crisis."

Last week he also criticised PM Narendra Modi for wasting time over social media plans on the occasion of Women's Day.

"Dear @PMOIndia, Quit wasting India's time playing the clown with your social media accounts, when India is facing an emergency. Focus the attention of every Indian on taking on the Corona virus challenge," he had tweeted.

Meanwhile, Sonia Gandhi wrote to Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states on Friday to take appropriate measures and prepare a plan for combatting the spread of the virus.

The total number of cases of deadly novel Coronavirus touched 31 in the country on Friday with another Delhi resident testing positive for COVID-19.

The Delhi resident has a travel history of Thailand and Malaysia.

In the wake of the rising number of case related to Coronavirus in India, Prime Minister Modi cancelled his trip to Brussels for the India-European Union (EU) summit.

The government has also cancelled all official Holi celebrations across the country.
