Rahul's visit to Kedarnath caused Nepal earthquake: Sakshi Maharaj
New Delhi, Apr 28 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sakshi Maharaj has once again sparked a controversy by stating that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's 'impure' visit to Kedarnath has caused the devastating Nepal earthquake.
"Rahul Gandhi eats beef, and goes to the holy shrine (Kedarnath) without purifying himself. The earthquake was bound to happen," Maharaj told reporters in Haridwar:
His comments came as the quake on Saturday claimed over 5000 lives in Nepal.
Slamming his remark, Indian National Congress stated: "All our attention and efforts at this time should be aimed at relief, rescue and rehabilitation measures. However, in a most unfortunate and petty manner, certain habitual motor mouth offenders of the BJP- cohorts of the Prime Minister and BJP President Amit Shah- are trying to communalize and politicize a grave human tragedy."
"If media reports are to be believed, BJP leader and MP SakshiMaharaj now famous for asking women to produce 10 babies, eulogizing the killers of Mahatma Gandhi and comparing humans with dogs for sterilization, are now ascribing the Earth quake in Nepal to Shri Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Bhagwan Kedarnath," it said.
"In doing so he has not only denigrated all those who have faith in Bhagwan Kedarnath but the victims of this huge tragedy. It will be better if the PM and Amit Shah stop perpetuating rabid politics that has now reached the stage of denigrating even BhagwanKedarnath through his chosen cohorts. We demand that the PM and Amit Shah take immediate action against Sakshi Maharaj," the Congress statement added.
Congress Party has also asked its workers to mobilize relief and work in tandem with officials to supplement rescue operations.
While workers from neighboring districts have been already mobilized, Congress M.P’s have decided to donate one month’s salary, the statement said.
