New Delhi, Sept 8 (IBNS): In a policy revamp, the Indian Railways has introduced surge pricing system on the Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi trains which will come to effect from Sept 9.

Passengers will be introduced to 'flexi fare system' on these trains, similar to airlines.

According to reports, this system will be introduced on trial basis in II AC, III AC, Chair Car in the three trains besides Sleeper class in Duronto trains.

First AC and Executive Class have been kept out of the new system.

The first 10 percent tickets will be sold out at normal fare.

“The base fares will increase 10 percent with every 10 percent of berths sold,” The Hindu quoted the Railway Ministry in a statement.

Fares can go up to a maximum of 1.5 times the original base fare.

Separate charges will be levied on reservation fee, superfast charge, catering charge, and service tax.

This will not apply to tickets already issued for journeys to commence on or after Friday.
