Rajanth Singh calls Delhi cab rape incident as 'shameful'

New Delhi, Dec 8 (IBNS) Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday called the Delhi cab rape incident as 'shameful'.

"This incident  is extremely unfortunate and shameful. Laws are to be implemented effectively," Singh told media.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party workers on the same day protested outside Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's residence here over the rape a woman passenger in Delhi by a Uber cab driver last week.

The members of Congress-backed National Students Union of India (NSUI) also protested against the minister's house later.

The police have reportedly detained several Aam Aadmi Party and NSUI workers.

The Uber cab driver arrested for raping a woman passenger in Delhi was earlier too jailed in a rape case and apparently he was appointed without verification of his antecedents by the company, said media reports on Monday.

The Uber cab service driver, 32-year-old Shiv Kumar Yadav, was lodged in Tihar jail for seven months for a case of sexual assault in 2011, according to an NDTV report.

Police are investigating how the offender could make to the company Uber and appointed as a driver.

The police on Sunday arrested from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh the accused cab driver.

He would be produced in a court on Monday.
