Rajasthan political crisis: Court has no jurisdiction in matters of Speaker, says Congress' Abhishek Singhvi

New Delhi/IBNS: Congress leader and advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the court has no jurisdiction in matters related to Speaker (Assembly Speaker) as the Rajasthan High Court on Monday resumed hearing on the pleas filed by Sachin Pilot and his loyalists against the disqualification notices served to them.

Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi had served disqualification notices to 19 rebel Congress MLAs including Sachin Pilot.

Earlier the high court had passed a stay order on the disqualification notices.

The Congress government in Rajasthan plunged into a political crisis more than a week ago after then Deputy CM Sachin Pilot flew to Delhi revolting against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Pilot claimed he had the support of 30 MLAs who would walk out of the government with him.

After Pilot skipped two consecutive meetings of MLAs chaired by Gehlot, the 42-year old leader was sacked as the Deputy CM and the party's state president.

Gehlot has claimed the support of 109 lawmakers including 107 from his own party and 2 from a regional party.

The BJP, which has 75 of 200 assembly seats, has distanced itself from the political crisis in the desert state.

The majority mark in the assembly is 101.
