Rajiv Gandhi's national service can't be changed by a web series: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, July 14 (IBNS): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said a web series can't alter the national service of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who has been allegedly abused in the recently launched web series Sacred Games on Netflix.

Reacting to the controversy, Rahul, who is also the son of Rajiv Gandhi, took a dig at Hindu voluntary organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its political wing and the country's ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), by saying the Congress believes in freedom of expression unlike the saffron outfit.

Rahul's tweet reads, "BJP/RSS believe the freedom of expression must be policed & controlled. I believe this freedom is a fundamental democratic right. My father lived and died in the service of India. The views of a character on a fictional web series can never change that."

Actor Nawazuddin, the producers of the show have been booked for insulting the Congress PM.

Netflix has also been named in the complaint filed by a Congress member in West Bengal.

According to reports, Congress leader Rajiv Sinha, in his letter to the Kolkata Police, stated that Nawazuddin playing the role of Ganesh Gaitonde "abused our late Prime Minister RajivGandhi calling him fattu, which translated as pu*** in the subtitle".

The first original Indian series on Netflix, directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, has already grabbed limelight for its sex scenes.

The debut season talks about the events which have proved to be turning points in Indian history.

It goes back to the times of Emergency period imposed by former Congress PM Indira Gandhi.

The infamous Bofors scam during the regime of Rajiv Gandhi also finds its place in the launch series.
