New Delhi/UNI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday held a telephonic conversation with his Israeli counterpart Lt Gen (Res) Benjamin Gantz and congratulated him on assuming office.

In a tweet after the conversation, Singh said he looks forward to working closely with Israel to deepen defence cooperation and advance the strategic partnership.

"Congratulated Lt Gen (Res) Benjamin Gantz on taking charge as Dep PM & Min of Defence, Israel and thanked him for all the assistance by Israel during the COVID-19 pandemic. Look forward to working closely to deepen Defence Cooperation & advance strategic partnership with Israel," his tweet read.

He also thanked Lt Gen Gantz for the assistance provided to India by Israel for handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

India and Israel share a deep cooperation and strategic partnership.

In April this year, Israel delivered consignments of medical supplies comprising oxygen concentrators, individual oxygen generators, respirators, medications, and additional medical equipment to help India in its fight against the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic through special flights.

The new government of Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett took charge last month ending the 12-year rule of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
